Tips Cognos 8 : How do you unlock the System Administrators role in Cognos 8?

Description:

The System Administrators role is locked. There is no group or user designated as a member of Systems Administrator and I cannot add any new members to the System Administrators group.

Solution:

If a situation arises whereby the System Administrators role is locked inadvertently, by not having any group or user designated as a member, the \c8\configuration\schemas\content\db\AddSysAdminMember.sql script can be executed against the database hosting the content store. The script will assign the Everyone group as members of the System Administrators role. Note that this particular script is different for Cognos 8, in comparison to the script used to accomplish the same task in ReportNet. The user executing the script must have INSERT and SELECT privileges.

Steps:

  1. Backup your content store database.
  2. Stop Cognos 8 service.
  3. Navigate to the following path in the Cognos 8 installation: \c8\configuration\schemas\content.
  4. Select the appropriate Content Store directory: Oracle, DB2, MS SQL Server or Sybase.
  5. Ensure that the DB user has INSERT and SELECT privileges.
  6. Execute AddSysAdminMember.sql against your content store database.
  7. Start the Cognos 8 service.
  8. Log into Cognos Connection and verify that the System Administrators role is now accessible
